The creator of the annual Best American Essays, Robert Atwan has written a multitude of essays, literary criticism, and fiction. He has edited numerous anthologies.
HarperCollins publishes The Best American Essays every year. It is edited by Robert Atwan. It is part of the larger Best American series. Each year 25 articles are picked by a guest editor to be published. David Foster Wallace, editor of the most recent edition, selected 22 of the most significant articles to be published. This includes Sue Allison’s prose poem “Taking the Time to Read,” Reading”, Jerald Walker’s essay “The Importance Of Being a Good Son” and Jill McCorkle’s “Cuss Time.”
A group of writers, editors, and publishers gathered to discuss the resurgence for the essay. Randon Noble, Eula biss, and Kyoko mori were among them. The topics covered ranged from the latest experimental forms to personal essay questions. The symposium was held for a day at the Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan.
Ian Frazier
Ian Frazier has published many books, many of which are essays. His writing is humorous and satirical, yet elegant and sophisticated. He has been an official New Yorker contributor since 1991 and has won the Spur Award as Best Nonfiction.
Frazier is also the author of three short stories. These include Dating Your Mom (1986), Coyote V. Acme (1996) and On the Rez ((2000). He is also an occasional contributor to The New Yorker’s Talk of the Town section.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Western Reserve Academy and enrolled at Harvard University. While at university working at the Harvard Lampoon. It was there that he began to take an interest in writing.
Geoffrey Wolff
Geoffrey Wolff is an essayist and novelist as well as a memoirist. His books include A Day at the Beach that he wrote nearly twenty years ago. It is an iconic book. The book is a collection of notes by the author about an extraordinary life.
As a young man, Geoffrey lived with his father. They lived on the East Coast. His father was a charismatic. However, he was a deadbeat extraordinary. Geoffrey was a wrecker of cars during his time with his father.
In his early 20s, Wolff was an editor for New England Monthly, Esquire envouthe.com and The Washington Post. He was a New Times literary critic in 1974. He has had a varied career as a writer since then.
Wolff has been a biographer for 17 years. He has published six novels. His most recent works include an autobiography as well as an assortment of stories.
